Natural Eco Baby Review & #Giveaway (Ends 3/16) #rafflecopter

When it comes to feeding your family it is obviously important what you are feeding them and how you are cooking it but do you think also about what you are feeding them on or what your food is served in? Your food containers and dishes are also a crucial part of your eating habits yet something most people don't necessarily give much thought about.  I am not just talking about being green and taking advantage of reusable options but more specifically healthy reusable containers such as steel lunch boxes for older children and non toxic containers when it comes to baby and feeding items.
T-Bone is becoming more health conscious and making better choices with his food so these To-Go Ware Stainless Steel Sidekick containers (1 large and 2 small included in the set we received) are perfect for his needs.  He was super excited when we got them and couldn't wait to use them.  The sleek classic design is appealing to the teenager that can be finicky and the BPA and Phthalate free benefits appeal to this mama!
The large container holds 1 cup and the smalls each hold 1/2 cup so they are perfect for snack portions and the stainless steel makes for keeping your foods fresh and uncrushed when being tossed in a child's  backpack or even the diaper bag/mom's purse where lots of things get placed when children don't want to carry their own things.
For the younger kids in your life thinkbaby products are a definite must have.  I absolutely LOVE them and wish I had them from day one with Tates!  Available in 2 sizes for the bowls; cereal and low profile, each holding 10 ounces.  You can purchase the bowls with or without a fork and spoon set.  The spoon and fork are specifically designed to fit into little hands and are easy to grip.
Each bowl consists of a stainless steel interior and an easy to grip, durable, attractive bright orange exterior along with a matching see through lid to keep containers clean while traveling or not in use and foods safe if being used as a storage container.  I love that theses bowls easily come apart into 3 pieces (lid/stainless steel interior/orange polypropylene exterior) for quick cleaning and drying however little toddler hands aren't able to take them apart so no worries for mommy about a mess!
Tates adores these bowls just as much as I do and uses them daily.  He is a 'grazer' and pretty much eats non stop throughout the day so he always seems to have a bowl in his hand or one of his brothers sidekick containers if he is sneaky enough!  These bowls really are the perfect size for toddler meals and snacks and are super handy with the lids to seal away any uneaten food so nothing gets wasted.  Although Tates gets frustrated sometimes with the small amount of food the utensils hold he really insists on using them so I know how much he likes them and that they are comfortable for him to use, they just can't shovel the food in as fast as he would like!

All the products we received are:
  • sustainable
  • eco friendly
  • dishwasher safe
  • safe and non-leaching
  • BPA free
  • Phthalate free
  • PVC free
  • Lead free
  • Melamine free

All of these great products are fabulous tools for not only the eco conscious family but also single person that is interested in sustainable and healthy alternatives to traditional plastics made of harmful chemicals and materials.

Purchase:  You can purchase all of the wonderful products at Natural Eco Baby, your one-stop shop for moms and families to find eco-friendly, non-toxic, organic, green baby and household products offering over 30 brands and 500 child, pet and environmentally safe products!

Win It: Natural Eco Baby is giving away the exact same items I reviewed!  Your family is going to have a full set of healthy, green food storage options valued over $44!  Thanks so much Natural Eco Baby!

Greener Options with Instead Softcup

As most of you already know I am always on the look out for greener options for myself and my family and will always pass along any information to you all as well when I come across any greener alternatives.  With most of the world trying to go green these days there are more and more options becoming available for just about everything under the sun, even the not so comfortable to talk about topics that we as women encounter.
Whether you are a teenager getting your first period, mama with children or simply a woman without children looking for greener options, I would love for you to look into trying the Instead Softcup.  Softcup is a flexible cup worn internally, around your cervix. It collects, verses absorbs menstrual flow. It's hypo-allergenic, latex-free and completely safe when used as directed.  You can use one reusable softcup throughout entire cycle, saving you money and the environment when comparing it to traditional tampons and pads. You can wear the softcup for up to 12 hours (whether using the disposable or reusable option) and most women typically use fewer softcups than tampons or pads (when using the disposable softcup) because of the long wear-time thus creating less waste for landfills.

You can get more information from the Instead Softcup Website and connect with them on Facebook and Twitter.

Champions for Kids and Energizer Light Up a Life #EnergizerCFK #CBias

Last week I shared that I was going to be working on a project with Champions for Kids along with Energizer called Light Up A Life Simple Service Project.  My goal for this project was to put together an emergency preparedness kit for a school aged child so they could feel safe and have their very own 'stuff' to be in charge of and 'ready' for an adventure instead of a disaster.

T-Bone and I set out for a shopping trip to Walmart with a list and some high hopes.  If you would like to see our entire trip you can head over to our photo album on Google+.
We wanted our little 'survivalist' to have plenty of essentials like water and healthy snacks that wouldn't spoil but were also tasty. We actually got some of these for our house and they are really good!
We also wanted to offer our kit with a variety of options for the necessary gear, we found some super cool Energizer must haves such as this radio crank light so you don't have to worry if you are out of power for so long and running out of batteries.
This traditional battery powered flashlight is great because there was not only room on the handle for emergency phone numbers but also a whistle on the end too!  We grabbed one of these for our house too!
Extra batteries are a must to have on hand and our little survivalist is set with this pack of backup batteries that are rechargeable and come with the charging station.
We also wanted to include some fun activities so the possibility of a disaster or emergency situation wouldn't scare or cause stress for a child so we found some fun items too.
We also included a warm large blanket, a change of clothing, glow sticks, a deck of cards, gatorade, and several toiletries in case our survivalists is evacuated from home and doesn't think to grab these things.  Hand sanitizer and wet wipes were included as well for easy ways to keep clean if there is no water available and also something very important we included a first aid kit just in case any injuries occur.  We also included a poncho in case there was a need for a lightweight jacket or to keep dry!

We donated our backpack to the local American Red Cross and were honored to be able to introduce the  Champions for Kids organization to them and explain our project.  We were so excited to find out that they had been wanting to have a children's emergency kit but hadn't had one put together yet so they are going to be using our kit as an example to teach families and kids what to model theirs like.  They also advised us that next month is a Safety Awareness month and they will be working with the local media and possibly using our kit, what an honor!

Our family feels truly blessed to have taken part in this wonderful Champions For Kids Simple Service Project and we are really excited to see what next month has in store.  With a new featured project every month you have the opportunity to make a difference in the life of a child in need several times a year when you feel you are able.

You can follow Champions for Kids and find out what their monthly focus is by visiting them on Twitter, Facebook, or their Website.  You can also join in the conversations on Twitter at #EnergizerCFK and #ChampionsForKids.

Trim Down Thursdays~Favorite Healthy Snacks

I am super excited to be joining my friend Amanda from Coping with Frugality in a journey to trim down and get healthy this year and stay healthy for years to come!  We are planning on sharing our fitness goals, what works for us and what doesn't, what we are doing to stay on track along with healthy recipes and snack ideas.  We are going to hold each other accountable for our health and posting every Thursday and would love you all to share with us your journeys too!

This week to get started we are talking food, snacks to be precise!  I know as a busy mom and wife I get sidetracked and forget to eat until late afternoon sometimes which is definitely not a good thing.  One of my goals is to make sure there are always some quick and easy snacks in the kitchen for not only myself but my entire family.  For me the quicker preparation time the better and I don't want to fall into bad habits (candy/chips) so I need variety too.  I love salty and sweet so I have to have both covered and readily available so here are some ideas I came up with:

  • yogurt (flavored or add your own fruit and granola)
  • baked chips (100 calorie portions pre made up from a larger family size bag)
  • cheese and deli meat wrapped in lettuce (dark leaf)
  • fresh fruit
  • frozen fruit bars
  • applesauce
  • Special K bars
  • nuts (watch the salt/flavorings)
  • fresh veggies
What do you think?  Any ideas for some great snacks that are easy, healthy and even kid friendly maybe?  If you want to write about it and link up with us we would love to have you!

Light Up A Child's Life Challenge #EnergizerCFK #CBias

Champions for Kids is a wonderful organization that has mobilized MILLIONS of people with one simple mission, improve the lives of children. Their helpful website features Simple Service Projects that anyone can do; by yourself, as a family, church group, team of coworkers or a school group for your child's class.  For February the featured Project of the month is Energizer, Light Up A Life Simple Service Project.
The Energizer Light Up A Life project is devoted to keeping kids safe during the winter months.  Whether it is during a disastrous winter storm and a family is left without power or simply a child that has outgrown last years winter coat, there is always a need during the harsh winter months.  With winter storms causing no electricity families can not only be left in the dark but also cold and without food.  When I was younger, right after moving from Texas to Indiana there was an ice storm that left us without power for 9 days and it was very scary for myself and my siblings.  I can't imagine being a young child not understanding what is going on and having such a stressful situation around me, thankfully I was older and understood a bit.

Luckily now that I am older and have a family of my own I have my parents and siblings living close by so in an emergency situation we have options and places to go.  Honestly we don't even have much of an 'Emergency Kit' really just a box with some candles, a few flash lights and an emergency radio.  Our family is blessed in the fact that our kids are almost always with a parent and we don't leave even our oldest home alone but I know for a fact their are children in our own neighborhood that are home alone a lot.  I worry about them and they know if they need anything they can always come to our place however I fear sometime we won't be home.  I would love to have an awesome winter survival kit for everyone in our neighborhood but that is a bit out of my reach.  Hmmmm, but maybe just 1 kit would help?  What do you think?

Over the next week I am going to get my kids to help me put together a winter emergency kit for a school aged child that might be home alone and donate it to a child in need.  I am going to contact the local boys and girls clubs to get some information about where I can donate specifically and hopefully make one child feel a little safer if an emergency arises and they are home alone.

Here are some things I am thinking about including in our kit:

  • batteries
  • flashlight
  • blanket
  • snacks (food that won't spoil)
  • hand sanitizer
  • facial wipes
  • tissue
  • glow sticks
  • bottles of water
  • hat/gloves/scarf
  • hand warmer packets (great for inside gloves!)
  • activities (cards/puzzle/crayons+paper?)

Please feel free to join me in this great opportunity!  This is my challenge for you: I would love to hear your suggestions on items I can include in my kit or if you want to make a kit of your own to donate please share your story!  Every kit can help make a difference to a child that is alone and may be scared.

FuzziBunz Elite Cloth Diaper Review & Giveaway

FuzziBunz creator Tereson Dupuy is a mother of three and often called the Mother of Modern Cloth Diapers.  In 1999 after her four month old son suffered from chronic diaper rash Tereson tried every cloth and disposable system on the market with no relief for his little boy she set out and created what is known by so many people today as FuzziBunz.  I know when I started cloth diapering almost 19 months ago it was one of the first brands I heard about however hadn't gotten the chance to try until recently.
The newly released FuzziBunz One Size Elite Pocket Diaper package includes the diaper, 1 easy to replace elastic and 2 minky inserts.  This diaper is newly designed so the adjustable button elastic system found in the legs and the back are inside the pocket therefore there is no button up against babies skin.  The diaper inserts are a new material (the old version came with microfiber) that is minky (size small and medium/large included with each diaper) and offers several benefits such as trimmer fit with the same absorbency (as microfiber), less staining and less odor verses microfiber.  Diapers are available in snap closure only and have fleece as the inner material offering a stay dry material against babies skin and a durable quick drying diaper liner.
This one sized diaper is very different than any other one sized diaper we have used.  There isn't the typical snap down rise but instead you adjust the leg and back elastic according to the sizing guide (this is only a suggestion, each baby is different), this took me quite awhile to get used to and you definitely don't want to experiment with sizing when baby is fussy as adjusting the diaper and trying on baby several times can be time consuming.  Without the traditional snap down rise the diaper doesn't have as much bulk from the extra material being snapped down and the diaper is more smooth and sleek looking however requires more trial and error to get a good fit on your baby.
The inserts fit perfectly into the diaper and don't really have much room to move therefore staying in place securely even if you have a very active toddler (like me!) that runs around everywhere never slowing down.  The inserts (we only use the medium/large as Tates is 28+ pounds and a heavy wetter, the small is better for smaller babies) are very absorbent and don't require much prepping at all.  I washed them 3 times before using the diaper on Tates and they held a lot of pee.  The diaper also held a blowout phenomenally well, Tates had eaten Mexican food and had one of the worst diaper explosions I have ever seen and the diaper didn't leak much at all.  I say it didn't leak much at all because I honestly don't think anything could hold what Tates dished out.
Super trim!
The snap layout is completely different than any of the other diapers we have tried as well and it threw me for a loop,  however we had no issues with the diaper coming undone or leaks so it passes our tests!  The snaps are very strong and as I have mentioned before I love snap closure.  Although the diaper is one sized it seems to be slightly smaller than some other one sized diapers.

Purchase: FuzziBunz are available in a wide variety or colors and super adorable 'Diaper Talk' prints like the adorable "Does This Diaper Make My Butt Look Big?" one we received! You can locate a retailer right on the FuzziBunz website and even see where the sales are!
Win It: One lucky reader is going to win their choice of one sized FuzziBunz! Thanks so much FuzziBunz!  Enter below then head over to Mama On A Green Mission and read about her experiences with FuzziBunz and another chance to win!

Valentine's Day Planning and Instead Softcup

As a blogger I *hope* what I write helps my readers in some way whether it is with information or an opinion on a product or sharing my experiences and adventures as a wife and mother.  I know that when I read other blogs and see pictures and stories about things that affect me it makes me feel connected to others knowing what happens to our family is 'normal' and common.

I don't get a chance to hang out with my other mommy friends nearly as much as I would like to however recently a few of us got together for a pajama party and (girls being girls) we started gabbing about every topic under the sun.  With Valentine's Day coming up of course we all started chatting about what we thought our husband's had planned and what we had planned for them.  One friend in particular was hoping to have a nice evening in with her husband, she was having her kids spend the night with her parents and had an entire adult evening ready to surprise her husband with including some new lingerie.  She then told us she had gotten her monthly visit from 'Aunt Flo' and was canceling the whole evening so I was really excited to be able to pass along some information to her about the Instead Softcup and how it is OK to use it during intercourse.  She was skeptical at first and didn't believe me so I grabbed the one I carry in my purse (in case I need it unexpectedly while I am out and about) and gave it to her to try.  She tossed it in her purse and we went on with the evening enjoying ourselves.

The next day I got a text from her asking where she could get more!  She told me she had talked to her mom and had the romantic evening for her and her husband scheduled again and couldn't wait for Valentine's Day now.  Of course I was completely ecstatic to have not only helped a friend but also helped the planet too, Softcup can be worn for up to 12 hours and typically women use fewer Softcups tampons or pads therefore less waste!

You can learn more about Instead Softcup and all it's benefits at Softcup.com

Two Sweet Potatoes Review & Giveaway

When we started cloth diapering we almost immediately started using cloth wipes too, it just made sense not only for the cost factor but also the green factor.  Using cloth diapers and disposable wipes just seemed weird to me so just like cloth diapering I dove in head first.  The learning curve on cloth wipes isn't nearly as overwhelming as cloth diapers however there is a difference in cloth wipes and luxury cloth wipes, and when Nikki from Two Sweet Potatoes offered to let me review her Organic Bamboo Velour wipes (OBV) I was so excited I could hardly wait!
Nikki sent me a set of 8 wipes in a rainbow of vibrant colors and the first thing I did was keep running them through my fingers! These are the softest wipes I have ever felt and the workmanship is simply perfect.  I have used several brands of cloth wipes in my time of cloth diapering and lots have frayed and come apart around the edges, these wipes look as new as the day I received them.  Nikki hand finishes (no chemical fray block is used) every wipe and you can tell her talent and care are poured into each wipe.
These double sided OBV (70% organic bamboo viscose, 28% organic cotton, 2% polyester) wipes measure 7 1/4" x 4 1/4" and are the perfect size to stash just about anywhere, they are just the right size for travel in the diaper bag and are actually just as claimed on Nikki's store-perfect for wipes warmers and/or disposable containers without the need to fold.  I pre-moisten our wipes with a solution and store them in a warmer ready to use on Tates and when not being used (we rotate our wipes since we don't a complete stash of Nikki's yet!) we store our dry wipes in a drawer next to the changing table.  Every time we have to use wipes for changing we usually have to finish with a dry wipe and honestly my husband and I ALWAYS reach for these wipes, it is really a double edged sword....we want them in the warmer because they are so absorbent and thirsty they can handle the messiest of jobs (imagine blowouts you don't even know where to begin cleaning) but at the same time we want them dry to finish off a job that leaves a toddler's tush soaking wet from being cleaned.  Plain and simple we NEED more!
Purchase your own luxuriously soft and absorbent OBV wipes in your choice of various colors along with Nikki's other hand made goodies like bibs, burp cloths and even baby clothing directly from her Etsy shop where you will find everything is organic!

Win your very own set of of 8 ultra soft (even after 4 months of use at the EBMD house!) OBV wipes right here!  Nikki is graciously giving away a set of her heavenly wipes in your choice of in stock colors.  Enter the Rafflecopter form below, US and Canada only please.

Homecoming, Prom and Evening Wears

My husband works for the school district where we live and so lucky for me I always know what's going on not only in my children's schools but also in the school system in general.  This is really handy when there are school closings I get notified super early and if there might be something else going on I can also get the behind the scenes story as well as him reminding me when there is no school for whatever reason.

This also leads to us going to support our schools events locally such as football games, fundraisers, and volunteering to chaperon events.  One of the largest and most popular school activities (speaking from a girls point of view) is definitely the school dances!  Every girl gets really excited about Homecoming and Prom and the chance to get all dressed up and act like they are adults.  I remember my mom taking me shopping for my first Homecoming Dress, back then the shopping options were pretty slim, you had to go to a department store and basically choose from whatever their buyer thought was the latest trends.  Now with the online shopping options (I LOVE shopping online) girls are much luckier to be able to find the perfect dress so they feel like the Belle of the Ball!

When I chose my Prom Dress I always went for something short and black with some kind of color, whether it was a pretty trim or a pop of sparkle to catch the eye.  Now that I am older I definitely lean more towards a Formal Dress; long, sleek and elegant immediately comes to mind when I think formal gowns and imagine myself feeling like a princess.  I still lean towards black however am also a bit more adventurous and willing to try something fun and colorful.  The great thing about formal dresses is that they are great for wearing more than once.  Homecoming and prom dresses are versatile too and can be worn for holiday parties, date nights with that special someone or even a special daytime event.
One last thing and this is like the icing on the cake, accessories.  You have to have the perfect shoes, handbag and jewelry to go with your fabulous dress.  I prefer to go classic and elegant which means timeless too.  Honestly, up until about a year ago I still had some of my prom jewelry and I still do have my shoes!
What is your homecoming or prom style?

CARA B Naturally Review & $25 CVS Launch Giveaway

I have said it many times before, I am a huge fan of natural products especially when it comes to my kids so when I was offered a chance to try Cara B Naturally products I was more than excited!  This line of certified all natural products formulated specifically for ethnically diverse babies is absolutely wonderful for all babies and children of any skin type.  Cara B Naturally as a company encourages healthy attitudes about ones self and promotes positive images and messages along with the belief that Children Are Always Beautiful, Naturally®.  This is something that I find truly refreshing and honorable in a company.

This is the beautiful gift basket we received to sample from Cara B Naturally, so pretty I hated to open it!  We were sent full size bottles of the Shampoo/Body Wash, Body Lotion, Leave-In Conditioner and the Moisturizing Hair Mist.  Cara B products are chemical free, petrolatum free, paraben free, phthalate free, sulfate free and do not contain artificial colors or fragrances and are made with only natural, plant-based ingredients.
Tates has super sensitive skin therefore I am very careful what I use on him but without any nasty chemicals I wasn't worried one bit about using Cara B on my baby boy. We immediately put all the products into our daily routine so we could get the full Cara B Naturally experience and reap the benefits of the nourishing, organic ingredients that these products offer.
The shampoo and body wash is the first thing we used, I love using combination products on my squirmy little one because you don't have to mess with several bottles while trying to handle a slippery baby in the bath tub.  The light chamomile scent was not overpowering at all and offered a refreshing clean smell after lathering up nicely.  Tates loves bubbles and some natural products don't lather very well and require using extra product to get his desired amount of bubbles however Cara B nailed it with their shampoo and body wash.  The aloe and vitamin E help to moisturize delicate baby skin.
The body lotion has the same light scent that the shampoo/body wash does and is great to use right after getting Tates out of the bath.  We lotion him up twice a day to make sure his skin stays super soft.  Several products we have tried before irritate his skin and cause little bumps however Cara B is so gentle that Tates skin was just fine only softer than before!  Tates really enjoys having his lotion put on and actually every diaper change he tries to apply it. :)
I have really long, thick, wavy hair and it is absolutely impossible to comb it without using some kind of conditioning or detangling spray and even then it still is horrible.  Everyday when I am trying to comb my mess out Tates wants me to spray his hair (like I spray mine) but I don't want to use the stuff on him that I put on my hair.  He used to fall for the "pssh pssh" noise I made and pretended to spray him but he has caught on to my game, now with Cara B moisturizing hair mist I can spray his baby fine hair and have no worries!  Until his recent haircut Tates hair was pretty long and with it being so fine he had 'bed head'  literally all the time but now with a few squirts of this lightweight non greasy mist Tates hair is smooth and conditioned with the jojoba oil and smells freshly washed with the sweet almond oil scent.
The leave-in conditioner is something that my little one really doesn't need for his fine hair as the other products have him covered so this was a treat for ME!  With the heat and damage I do to my hair it screams for some nourishment and the jojoba oil and shea butter immediately left my hair more manageable and noticeably softer.  I only needed a small amount and my fly aways disappeared and my hair looked all around healthier.
